More Brain Leakage...

I have been a bad boy for not writing last week, but I have been busy, working night and day to be the best pharmaceutical delivery driver in the two state region.  Not to mention having to treat an infection in my foot.  I'll let you know if it heals or if we'll be having "Tim's right foot chili."

I was thinking about some of the radio promotions I have been involved in over the years.  The first station I worked for, KNEB, which I saved from a burglary, got stabbed in the process, got a $15 bonus and was later fired and told I had no future in radio, was the home to my first radio promotion.  I don't really remember how you signed up but the prize was a tractor radio.  You may not realize that some tractors don't come with a radio.  This was the kind you mounted on the fender next to you and it would bring in your favorite AM stations.

I can't recall any promotions or giveaways at KOLT.  The station was so darn popular that we didn't have to bribe people to listen.  At KOIL in Omaha, the station was under interim ownership and was literally a not for profit station.  The previous owner had been stripped of his licenses and this guy was running it until the FCC, in all their infinite wisdom, could find a permanent owner.  We gave away a prize an hour.  Sometimes it was a record album.  (A black shiny round disc which contained music played on a record player)  Sometime we gave away movie tickets and sometimes a months supply of Centrum vitamins!  That's one small bottle of pills in case you're not a health nut, vitamin freak like me.  The only big promotion we did was one to save a gorilla at the zoo.  That really drew in some listeners.  Of course, we did have Sprite night at Peony Park which we affectionately called fight night.  That really helpe d gain listeners!

I've already told you about KEYN and KKRD giveaways.  Those two stations made giveaways so everyday that winners stopped being excited when they won.  Our listeners won cars and trips and at Christmas we got a fruit basket.  But that's another story for another time.

I've got to go see if my foot has turned back to a normal color from it's current color of green.  Wish me luck!

That is ll...Peters out!  (And you know who you are!)
